The Companies Act, 2013 mandates every listed company in India fulfilling certain conditions to have at least 1 woman director appointed on their board.
While ~45% of the Nifty-500 companies have just 1 woman director to comply with the law, there are a few companies like Zomato and Apollo hospitals where women constitute more than 50% of the members of the board of directors.
57% of the directors on Zomato’s board consist of women, while 55% on Hindustan Zinc and Cummins Inc., 54% on Apollo Hospitals, and 50% on Nestlé India are the leading companies with the highest number of women on their board.
Dominated by men, women bring a fresh perspective to any company’s board and positively impact an organisation’s performance. Gender-balanced boardrooms are 20% more likely to improve business outcomes.
With time, women’s participation in boardrooms goes up and so does an organisation’s impact on its own business and society in general.
Which company I’ve missed out on that has a gender-balanced boardroom?
